There's a lot of community in academic departments, fostered by the faculty, to help you meet other people in your major and make connections with students and faculty alike. Overall though people are so nice and its easy to meet people in around the school. The only issues with the social scene at Reed are that rumors can move pretty fast in a small school and it can be hard to avoid people that you don't want to see. There's always something to do on the weekend and people are generally really friendly and open so it's pretty easy to strike up a conversation with a classmate and get to know them. The academics are involved and it feels like you get a good academic experience for your money. They are easily one of the best parts of Reed, always available and they make a genuine effort to get to know you. Faculty are so helpful and supportive and really encourage you to engage with the material. Sophomore: Reed is a great school with a good balance of academics and social life. If you are interested in a STEM degree or desire a highly academic environment, S&T is the school for you. The town of Rolla is super walkable and has plenty of shops, parks, and restaurants to explore. There's plenty of clubs and organizations to join. I feel safe on campus and student life is not nearly as bad as people say. Rolla itself leaves something to be desired though. I am only a sophomore and I am already getting internship offers! The career fair here is huge and job recruiters highly value an S&T degree. All of my professors have been helpful and engaging, and the reputation of this school proceeds it. The meal variety has improved significantly in recent years, and campus continues to improve and expand with the 300 million dollar grant given to the school recently.
